Having Fun and Making Memories!
I first want to say Happy Easter to all of you! I hope you are enjoying your time with family, friends, or maybe some great quilting time!
This past couple of weeks have been very busy! However, I have been having fun and making memories. To begin with, the weather is finally changing…thank goodness. My beautiful redbud tree has started to bloom. This gave our color pallet some purple to go with those yellow daffodils. Oh, how nature teaches us about color, and can give us examples of how color works together. Some people get anxious when deciding on color for their quilts. There are so many examples to pull from within nature to see how they can work. It is as if the heavens above are making a new quilt every spring.
Spring also brings warmer weather. With the warmer weather, I take more walks with my dogs. Upon one of the walks, I took my camera. Along our travels, I took a seat on the ground and took a picture of this path that we take. Although we either walk this path or walk past it every day, this particular day, it made me start to think…
This path has bumps, loose gravel, things needing to avoid, and it is UPHILL…kinda like life. Within in our journey, we select paths to take. Each one has bumps in the road, sometimes our foundation may be a bit slippery, many things that we should choose to avoid or remove from our lives (like negative talk, for example), and we can feel like we are constantly walking uphill and will never reach the top. But with focus, building on our foundations either with support or education (to list a couple of things), keeping positive and removing the toxins we have around us, staying strong with perseverance, and simply believing in our dreams and ourselves, we will eventually make it to the top and begin the path downhill. Just remember, that once the downhill ends, we usually find another hill to hike. It is part of life, uphills and downhills. Personally, after I have made it through the treacherous uphill, I try to reflect and find all the silver linings and something I may have learned along the way, keeping that positive outlook. We only live once. Therefore, I try very hard to embrace it. I’m thinking about printing this picture, framing it, and putting it in my sewing studio to remind me that even the uphills are part of the journey, and eventually I will make it to the top where things will be a bit easier.
This past weekend I attended my daughter’s sorority’s Mother’s Weekend. That’s a ton of apostrophes. I am not certain that is good grammar…lol… At any rate, this is her senior year and our last Mother’s Weekend event together. I have always loved this weekend, as it is a time for just us and I get a small glimpse into her life. Although we talk almost every day, experiencing it is very different. So, we attended the luncheon held by the sorority. But we had to leave early, as she had to work for her internship. But again, I got to meet the people she works for and with, and experience an event that they were having. It truly was a gift to be there. However……I had the best gift my daughter has ever given me…she wanted to learn to make hexes and has been looking for something to decompress and destress with. Sooooo, I taught her how to make string piecing blocks, and she was so excited about it. I gave her my first sewing machine, a cutting mat, rotary blade, 2 rulers, lots of hexes papers, bought fabric , thread, bobbins, a box of parchment paper, gave her needles and, yes, a seam ripper (can’t leave Jack out), and brought loads of scraps of fabric. She has quite a stash to start with…Eeek…Remember, this winter she made a rag quilt for the first time. I have to say, I believe she has the quilting bug. It will not be long before she is piecing other types of quilts~at least that is what I am seeing…lol She has sent me a couple of pics to share. I have to say, she is a natural. Her hexes are better than mine! My goal as a teacher is that my students surpasses me. She definitely has done that. I am looking forward to seeing all her creations with these two methods.
Finally, I am finishing up 2 T-shirt quilts. One is in binding stage, the other is a rag style that I have finished quilting and now am putting the blocks together. I should have the former finished by this weekend (and maybe the first…fingers crossed). I am also working on the hexe tutorial and my first design. The Vicki Holloway 15 minute challenge is also underway…I have chosen to take this time to hand quilt my hubby’s quilt. Boy, is there so much learning involved with this. But, that is for another blog! This couple of weeks is heavy, but thankfully I simply love it!!
Until next time, may you continue to be inspired, productive, and joyful! And never stop making your dreams in quilting come true!
