Fun with Little Squares
Fun with Little Squares
By Emma Allen
Play with 2” fabric squares to create a 7-1/2” block. You will select fabric squares from Emma’s stash of thousands of pre-washed, pre-cut cotton fabrics in a full range of colors.
The class will include an introduction to color theory. Techniques for cutting, stitching, and pressing will be demonstrated and used to create a custom block. If time allows, multiple blocks may be completed.
You will walk away with a better understanding of color, tools to keep track of your design as you sew and press, and techniques to create beautifully intersecting seams. Once home, you can use your completed block in the project of your choice.
Supplies:
Emma will provide each participant with free access to her stash of 2” squares, a portable design board, tools, and an illustrated handout to help you create a unique block. Yes, you keep the design board and tools!
Participants should bring:
A sewing machine with a presser foot suitable for stitching ¼” seams (sewing machine should be in good working order with a fresh needle and oiled, if necessary.) Don’t forget your foot pedal and plug.
A full bobbin and matching spool of thread in a neutral color
Thread snips
Cost: $50.00 payable to Emma Allen
**Emma does require a minimum of 2 participates. Bring your friend for a fun time playing with small squares with Emma**

Stack & Whack Workshop Session 2
Stack & Whack Workshop
Instructor: Ann Czompo
This fun and unique technique, taught over 2 sessions, creates kaleidoscope-like blocks by stacking and cutting fabric!
Join Ann as she teaches us the Stack & Whack technique by Bethany Reynolds. Ann says this “… is easy with interesting results. You won’t know how it will look, or specific yardage requirements until you have completed the process of block construction. Each block will be different.”
Supplies:
Fabric suggestion: select a fairly dense design with a variety of colors, without large patches of background. Angel at HALO Inspirations can assist you, or you can wait until the first class and Ann will help you select an appropriate fabric for the blocks. DO NOT WASH THE FABRIC!
Choose fabric with a medium to large print and little background
The design in the fabric should repeat at least every 11/12 inches
It's a good choice for using pretty fabrics that you don't want to cut into small pieces
Sashing and corner squares
Borders
Binding
Neutral thread for construction.
Flat head pins and regular pins
Seam roller/presser (optional)
Rotary Cutter with fresh blade 45-60
Mat 18” X 24” If you have a rotating mat, it’s handy for trimming blocks (optional)
Rulers: 12.5” square, 6.5” X 24.5” rectangle
Sewing machine (with cord, foot pedal, bobbins, manual, presser feet: straight stitch, quarter inch foot). Lubricating the machine and a new needle (12/80 or 14/90 Microtex, sharp, or topstitch) recommended.
For more details about the fabric, feel free to stop in! Ann has created a pamphlet with more details.
